WHEN THE WORLD CAME TO NAILSWORTHWith the theme of ONE WORLD, the 23rd Nailsworth Festival in 2006 had a real international flavour. Once again it kicked off with an exciting FESTIVAL SATURDAY and the town was crowded for a whole day of free entertainment, craft events and childrenıs activities - from a range of performers including jugglers, street theatre and bands and a special Farmerıs Market, to sensational Festival meals from Nailsworthıs famous eateries and an open day at the Fire Station. The day concluding with the choice of international Opera favourites from Opera del Mar or the hugely popular NAILSTOCK CONCERT which drew the crowds to the natural amphitheatre in King George V Fields to hear music from a host of talented local bands.
Throughout the week the international theme dominated the range of cultural performances which included Natya Kala, classical Indian dance by India Dance Wales, a concert of classical music from around the world, a gospel concert by the Aberdeen Street Fellowship Choir from Birmingham and an enormously popular concert of pulsating music from Africa by Congolese band Kasai Masai. In addition to these exciting global attractions the Festival enjoyed its usual wide range of attractions to appeal to all tastes and age groups, including Morris dancing on May Day, Exhibitions, Craft Demonstrations, Poetry Reading, Talks and participatory activities such as Craft Workshops, Bowls Taster Days and the popular Festival Walk. THANKS TO SPONSORSOnce again the Festival was only able to take place by virtue of the generous sponsorship from the Nailsworth Town Council, Stroud District Council, Ruskin Mill College, the Friends of the Nailsworth Festival, the Nailsworth News and many local businesses including Crystal Fountain Retirement Villages, Oxford & Swindon Building Society and the Nailsworth and District Chamber of Trade. |
